Anil Nanda AwardANIL NANDA AWARDView list of award winners (below) Dr. Anil Nanda, a native of New York, earned his medical degree with honors from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Madras University, in India. He completed an internship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by a residency in general surgery at Rush–Presbyterian–St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, neurosurgery at Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, and in pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He completed fellowship training in microsurgery and skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Nanda earned a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2012. Dr. Anil Nanda is the Peter W. Carmel MD Chair of Neurological Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He previously served as Professor and Chair of Neurosurgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, where he established the largest neurosurgical residency program in Louisiana. Among his many leadership positions and professional honors, he served as President of the Southern Neurosurgical Society in 2007 and was the William Henry Hudson Lecturer In 2016. Dr. Nanda is an egalitarian leader in neurosurgical education. He is innovative, highly creative, and a master surgeon. Throughout his remarkable career, he has been particularly devoted to mentorship in the Southern Neurosurgical Society. As such, in honor of his legacy to the Southern, the Anil Nanda Award was created in 2019 to award abstracts/papers that best exemplify a commitment to education and mentorship.
